Almost every private four-day tour follows the same shape: Delhi and the drive to Agra on day 1, the Taj Mahal and the drive to Jaipur on day 2, Jaipur on day 3, and the long drive back to Delhi on day 4.
What differs is the detail: how much of Delhi you see, whether Fatehpur Sikri is on the way, and whether you can be dropped at an airport at the end.
The quick answer
Day 1: Delhi sightseeing, then about 233 km (3.5 to 4.5 hours) to Agra. Day 2: the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort, then about 238 km (4.5 to 5.5 hours) to Jaipur, often via Fatehpur Sikri. Day 3: Amber Fort, the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal. Day 4: about 268 km (5 to 6 hours) back to Delhi. Expect roughly 13 to 15 hours of driving in total.

What does a 4-day Golden Triangle itinerary look like?
Delhi on day 1, Agra on day 2, Jaipur on day 3 and the drive back on day 4, with a long drive on every day except the third.
| Day | Route | Drive | Typical sights |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Delhi to Agra | ~233 km, 3.5 to 4.5 h | Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar, India Gate (drive past) |
| 2 | Agra to Jaipur | ~238 km, 4.5 to 5.5 h | Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Baby Taj, often Fatehpur Sikri |
| 3 | Jaipur | City driving only | Amber Fort, Jal Mahal, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal |
| 4 | Jaipur to Delhi | ~268 km, 5 to 6 h | Drop at your Delhi hotel or the airport |
Like the shape of it? The Hello India tour follows this plan with a guide in each city.
Check dates for the Hello India 4-day tourDay 1: what do you see in Delhi?
Old Delhi in the morning (Jama Masjid and a walk or rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk), then New Delhi's monuments, before a 3.5 to 4.5 hour drive to Agra.
The lists differ. Hello India adds Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Humayun's Tomb, the Qutub Minar, the Lotus Temple and Akshardham; Keeper Landwey adds a tuk-tuk in Old Delhi, the Khari Baoli spice market, Agrasen ki Baoli and Humayun's Tomb; Creative India starts at 8 AM with Raj Ghat, India Gate, the Qutub Minar and Humayun's Tomb. It is a full day, and you reach Agra in the evening.

Day 2: the Taj Mahal and on to Jaipur
The Taj Mahal first thing, then Agra Fort, often the Baby Taj, and the 4.5 to 5.5 hour drive to Jaipur, with Fatehpur Sikri on the way on some tours.
Hello India and Creative India stop at Fatehpur Sikri; Driver India adds both Fatehpur Sikri and the Chand Baori step well at Abhaneri. Keeper Landwey and Driver India schedule the Taj at sunrise. Remember the Taj is closed on Fridays: see the Taj Mahal sunrise guide.

Day 3: what do you see in Jaipur?
A full day in the city: Amber Fort in the morning, then Jal Mahal, the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal.
This is the only day without a long drive, which is why it feels like the most relaxed of the four. Keeper Landwey visits Jaigarh Fort instead of Amber; the others start at Amber, one of the Hill Forts of Rajasthan on the UNESCO list.

Want Jaipur's tickets paid for you? The Driver India tour includes the monument fees, from Amber to Hawa Mahal.
Explore the fees-included tourDay 4: back to Delhi, or drop in Jaipur?
Most tours drive about 268 km (5 to 6 hours) back to your Delhi hotel or the airport; some let you finish in Jaipur instead.
Driver India drops at Delhi or at Delhi or Jaipur airport, and Keeper Landwey can drop you in Jaipur. If you fly out on day 4, book an evening flight, or finish in Jaipur and fly from there.
Flying out of Jaipur? Keeper Landwey can end the tour there.

How much driving is it really?
About 740 km, or roughly 13 to 15 hours in the car over four days, most of it on days 1, 2 and 4.
The roads between the three cities are mostly expressways and highways, but city traffic adds time at both ends. That is why the car matters: with three adults and luggage, ask for an SUV rather than a sedan. One guest on a long day trip wrote that the small car they were given made eight hours on the road miserable.

Can you change the order or skip stops?
Yes, within reason: it is a private tour, and guests regularly report guides who adapted the day to what they wanted to see.
Say on day 1 what matters to you. Shop stops (marble inlay in Agra, textiles or gems in Jaipur) are common, and guests report you can simply decline them. What cannot move is the Friday closure of the Taj. For a shorter version, see 3 or 4 days.

Which city should you visit first on the Golden Triangle?
Delhi, then Agra, then Jaipur is the usual order from Delhi, because it gets the Taj done early and ends with the longest drive on the last day.
How early do the tours start?
Creative India lists an 8 AM start on day 1; the others agree a pickup time with you. On sunrise tours, day 2 starts before dawn.
Is 4 days enough for the Golden Triangle?
It is enough for the highlights with a guide in each city. You will not see everything, and three of the four days include a long drive.
Can the tour start at Delhi airport?
Yes. Every tour here picks up at Delhi airport on request, and the steps to india tour is built around an airport arrival.
